The practice

“We need inward-facing time to be healthy. One must have a relationship with oneself.”

Wu De

You sit. You drink tea. You listen inwards. There is nothing to perform, nothing to get right and nothing to achieve. Just a moment carved out of your day where you get to hear your own thoughts instead of talking over them.

We sit in the Way of Tea, Cha Dao, a lineage more than a thousand years old. Where tea was taken in silence as a form of meditation. The tea is brewed in a side-handle pot and poured into bowls, infusion after infusion, much as it has been for centuries.

01 — STILLNESS

Slow down

No cues and no instruction. A soundscape drifts underneath, the kettle steams, and the ceremony holds the pace so your nervous system can follow.

02 — COMPANY

Together, without conversation

Sitting with others in silence is its own kind of connection. You arrive as strangers and leave having shared something real.

03 — PRESENCE

A gift in every sip

Permission to be in this moment and see the raw, unfiltered beauty in it. A little more of your humanness, one bowl at a time.

The ceremony

What to expect

  • 01Arrive and settle. Shoes off, phone away, find your cushion and drop in.
  • 02The tea is poured bowl by bowl, in silence, with an immersive soundscape underneath.
  • 03Several infusions of shou puerh, a dark, aged, earthy tea that is grounding and easy on the body.
  • 04Space to sit with whatever comes up. Thoughts, feelings, or nothing at all. All of it welcome.
  • 05The practice closes, and you drift back into your day feeling a little more like yourself.

From the tea table

Tea ceremony is the practice I have come back to again and again. It started with me, a teapot, a bowl and some leaves after my first ceremony. It became a morning ritual, then something shared with a few close friends. Tea has held me through grief and given me clarity on questions I could not answer, and now I get to watch others feel it when I sit to serve.

It has to be felt to be understood. In a world where technology keeps expanding, coming home to our humanness only matters more. Come exactly as you are and let me pour for you.

Good to know

Before you sit

Everything you might be wondering. If it is not here, email us and we will get back to you.

Do I need any experience?

No. There is nothing you need to know or be able to do. Most people sitting with us are here for the first time.

Is it silent?

Yes. The ceremony is held in silence, so there is no pressure to talk, share or explain yourself. It is far from empty though: an immersive soundscape, the steam, the kettles coming to the boil. You sit and receive.

What tea will we drink?

Shou puerh, a dark, aged tea from Yunnan. Earthy, smooth and grounding, served across several infusions so the flavour and the feeling deepen as we go.

Where are tea ceremonies held on the Gold Coast?

Right now they move between the studio at Mermaid Waters and partner spaces around the Gold Coast, like Nya Rituals in Bundall. A dedicated tea space is on the way. This page always has the next date.

What should I bring or wear?

Nothing but yourself. Wear something comfortable you can sit in, and arrive ten minutes early so you can settle before we begin.

How do I book?

Purchase your seat from this page. Head to Reserve your seat at the bottom, pick your ceremony and pay securely. Then download the Therapy Fitness app, log in and book into the session you would like to attend. Your spot is only confirmed once you are booked in. Seats are $39, limited to keep the circle small, and they tend to go quickly. Tea seats are non-refundable.
