You Don’t Get Stronger in the Workout

Why Recovery Is the Most Overlooked Part of Strength Training.

When people think about getting stronger, they usually focus on what happens during the workout.

Lifting heavier.
Pushing harder.
Sweating more.

But here’s the part most people miss:

You don’t get stronger in the workout.
You get stronger in the recovery.

The workout is the stimulus. Recovery is where the adaptation happens.
Is Pilates enough?
Do you need to lift heavy to get strong?
Can you really build muscle without barbells?

Why You Might Cry in Class (And Why That’s Actually a Good Thing)

Stop Blaming Cortisol: The Real Story Behind Exercise and Stress

You may have heard that doing a tough workout will send your body into “fight-or-flight,” spiking cortisol, causing weight gain or burnout. Recently I have seen many fitness and wellness influencers (and professionals for that matter) discourage people from participating in higher intensity workouts, claiming “intense workouts can spike cortisol and ruin your hormones!” But this is a massive misunderstanding of how cortisol actually works and in a world where there are already so many barriers to people moving their body, only creates more fear and confusion around exercise.

In this post, we’ll kick things off by looking at some of the myths surrounding cortisol, then for those who want to go deeper, explore cortisol’s true role, how exercise affects it, and why vigorous workouts (even for women) are more friend than foe.

Your Strength is Found in Stillness

We’re often told that strength looks like intensity.
It sounds like loud music, hard breath, big lifts, heavy sweat.

The Powerful Role of Exercise in Combatting Depression

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a global challenge, impacting life satisfaction more than more than debt, divorce, and diabetes and worsening associated health conditions including heart disease, anxiety, and cancer. Existing treatments like drugs and psychotherapy, while effective for some, are not for others, highlighting the need for additional evidence-based interventions.
Exercise can be a potential compliment or alternative to traditional treatments for MDD, offering not only mental health benefits, but improvements in physical and cognitive well-being. Move for your Mental Health

Regular exercise is an essential component of maintaining good physical health, but its benefits extend beyond physical fitness alone. Exercise has been linked to improved mental health, including reduced stress and depression symptoms, improved mood and quality of life, and better overall well-being.
